Listening to Doug Powell talk about the Design for Good project, officially launched at PIVOT, got me thinking that the approach of many “social good” projects are still centered around the model of finding a client and then imposing some sort of campaign to make the client known and building a “profitable relationship” that just so happens to deal with something that may or may not cause any real meaningful change and was still ultimately proposed by “the client.” I feel that in order for designers to actually “change” anything we need to start from the bottom. Don’t approach a client, approach a problem and make It your client.
